Thanks for the guest post by Bradly Watkins
It started out as an idea to cash in all of our airline miles and hotel rewards points and head to Europe for a break from the grind. We started doing some research on places to visit, and given our Irish heritage, we immediately thought of Dublin. Then, one night, we were watching one of the channels we get through our cable tv deals and caught the tail end of a show that highlighted the rest of Ireland, not just Dublin... we were blown away at the beauty of the landscape, so we decided that was a place we could not miss.
So we started looking at flights, and hotels, and everything just fell into place for a July 4th vacation! We headed over on a Wednesday evening before the holiday weekend, and flew through the night into Dublin. We landed at about 8:30 in the morning, so we spent the day in Dublin, fighting the jet lag and touring the town. The following day, we were ready to take on the rest of Ireland. We headed east and my oh my what a beautiful journey we had. Our tour guide was well versed in Irish culture, as he had spent his whole career in the tourism industry. We learned about the potato famine, the Easter uprising, and tons of things that we did not know about Ireland!
It truly was a trip to remember and we will definitely be back to do some more exploring... next time, though, we will spend a few more days in Dublin to soak in some of the cosmopolitan town. What a fabulous journey we had!
