Thermal Curtains

I need new thermal curtains for all the rooms in the house this winter. I already shopped around, online and in-store, and so far I have found three options. Now my only problem is what to do with the kitchen windows. I have waverly curtains there right now. I don't know if I should change them into something more energy efficient or just layer it with sheer panels to at least let some light in during the day. I can't completely cover the kitchen windows because it's the only light source in that area of the house not unless I turn on the pendant lamps above the kitchen counter.
